Sandra McCracken and Derek Webb released a short collection of songs (EP) called TN & EP. On that EP is a marvelous song called “Tennessee” (listen to it here). I could not find the lyrics anywhere on the web so I transcribed them myself and checked with McCracken’s staff to confirm a line or two. Here are those beautiful words. Enjoy this tribute to Scottish roots and the music of Tennessee.
Tennessee
Sandra McCracken and Derek WebbLong before the shell became the sand
Before the hour-glass
Time sinking fast contains the man
Contains the momentDown from Scottish soil
And mountain paths
Across an ocean
Father, son, oh hand me down at last
Here on the grass of TennesseeOne, she found the one
And there were two who followed from them
Three and then four counted their days
Among the names in TennesseeLong before the shell became the sand
Time sinking fast contains the man
(Contains the moment)
Long before the shell became the sand
Time sinking fast contains the man
(Contains the moment)
